Volunteers

Thanks for a great 2022 Season.

Please remember to dress safely, please consider a hat (sun shade), be safe, and bring some water.

With public health restrictions our work efforts may need to be modified, but we are finding ways to work safely.  So, if you are interested in helping out contact us through our website or contact Greg directly at Contact Us or 613-476-5135.

Team Lead

While we don't want to create unnecessary hierarchy or bureaucracy, we recognize the need for a reasonable level of work site safety and project coordination. For each work site (restoration, new build, stone harvest, etc.) a Team Lead will be assigned by the Project Team with the following responsibilities:

Safety Guidelines for the MPRDSWP

What To Wear or Bring Why We Recommend This
Long pants and sleeves The stones are rough, and sometimes sharp. Brush, brambles and poison ivy are sometimes present. Ticks and mosquitoes may be present, and you might want to consider Deet or other repellents.
Sturdy footwear with good traction Walking on uneven and slippery ground while carry stones can be treacherous. Dropped or toppled stones can bang up feet and ankles. Work boots with steel toes are recommended.
Leather gloves The stones are often rough. Tough gloves are best as even rawhide gloves are not likely to last the season, but depending on your role, you may want more dexterity than offered by rawhide.
Eye protection Rock hammers are often used, and sometimes hammers and chisels. Sunglasses, regular prescription eye-wear, or safety glasses are required when we are breaking stone.
Sun protection Sun glasses, sun hat and sun screen are all recommended for wall building or stone collection sites with little shade.
Drinking water For our regular 2 hours weekly sessions, we recommend at least one litre of water. Stay hydrated.
Safety best practices Safe lifting practices, get advice before lifting heavy weights.
Hi-Visibility vest is recommended for road spotters.
Stay clear of the backhoe swing radius.
Allow for crew spacing if there are more than 4 workers.
Minimum crew of 2 when working on site.
If anyone has bee sting allergies let us know where your EpiPen is located.
New workers will be under the guidance of an experienced waller.
Face masks and health requirements We abide by current Public Health regulations. Be aware of groups size limitations, and any other published health requirements.
